About the
WORKSHOP

With Rita Lino’s guidance, our workshop is a journey unbound by constraints. We tackle the doubts that hinder raw self-portraiture, exploring the psychology of creativity. Together, we embrace self-expression through unfiltered self-portraits, free from preconceptions. In this workshop, we merge the essence of Rita Lino’s photographic practice with the pursuit of self-portraiture. Our goal is to nurture courage, creativity, and authentic connections in a visual narrative that embraces photography as a tool for inner exploration. Join us on this transformative journey, where the camera becomes your portal to unveiling your true self and the world around you.

During this workshop, the camera isn’t merely a tool; it becomes a gateway to our inner selves. We shed inhibitions, embrace vulnerability, and create a series of self-portraits that convey the genuine essence of our beings, liberated from preconceptions and artistic constraints. These self-portraits can be deeply personal or convey broader cultural and social messages, depending on the artist’s intent and the context in which they are created.

Day 1: Rita Lino will share her work and methodologies, setting the tone for our exploratory journey. Participants will introduce themselves to the group and present their portfolios, laying the foundation for a week of work.

Unveiling Creative Potential

Day 2: Participants will gather to discuss their project ideas and embark on a photographic journey that transcends conventional boundaries. We abandon preconceived notions and allow ourselves to explore subjects freely, utilizing the body as our instrument. Self-portraiture serves as a mirror to our innermost selves, revealing dimensions of our identity that are often hidden.

Personalized Artistry

Day 3: Participants will engage in one-on-one tutorials with Rita Lino. These sessions offer personalized guidance, enabling participants to refine their techniques and gain a deeper understanding of the profound connection between self and subject.

Crafting Personal Narratives

Day 4: The final day is dedicated to the editing and sequencing of photographs. As we weave together the visual threads of our self-portraits, we craft a narrative that encapsulates our journey of self-discovery. The day concludes with a presentation to an audience.

Rita Lino is a Portuguese visual artist living and working in Berlin. She began tracing her own path in photography by exploring freely and without any kind of pre-conception of the construction of the still image.
Focusing mainly on her personal work, the photographer has been developing and materialising it in many series of photos as visual exercises that explore a natural obsession with the self and the persona; a continuous work-in-progress using the body as primary matter to be re-created and exorcised.
Lino describes her photography as animalistic, instinctive, intimate, narcissistic, a thousand possible interpretations, a spiritual place, a self-sustained rehab outlined by a brutal transparency.
She’s been developing her personal series, projects and exhibitions all the while collaborating with several international initiatives, artist residencies and international magazines by contributing with her personal work or by creating exclusive photo series and editorials. To date (Sept. 2022), she has released four photo books in her own name with internationally recognised and acclaimed publishers.
