ArtFotoMode is an educational project that produces creative and experimental photography workshops with some of the most influential contemporary photographers as teachers and inspirational mentors. Workshops by ArtFotoMode have taken place in Berlin, Istanbul, Stromboli, Athens, Budapest, Warsaw, Naples, Santorini and have been conducted by photographic auteurs and curators including, Harry Gruyaert, Michael Ackerman, Laia Abril, Anders Petersen, Antoine d’Agata, John Gossage, Miho Kajioka, Vasantha Yogananthan, David Campany, Tobias Zielony, Taous Dahmani, Rafal Milach, Peter Puklus, Claudia Küssel, Paul Sepuya, Vanessa Winship, George Georgiou and Todd Hido. The aim of ArtFotoMode is to provide participants with a unique and productive experience that will enhance their creative output beyond the workshop, in locations that always provide context and inspiration.
ArtFotoMode One Year Program began in 2022-25 and is now on temporary hold.
Michael Grieve is a photographer, writer, educator, curator, and director of Werkstatt Berlin, Werkstatt Editions and ArtFotoMode. Based in Berlin and Athens. He graduated with an MA in Photographic Studies from the University of Westminster in 1997. He has been a photographer commissioned for magazines and publications internationally and represented by Agence VU in Paris. In 2010 he became the deputy editor of 1000 Words Contemporary Photography Magazine. Since 2011 he has been a senior lecturer at Nottingham Trent University in the UK, a lecturer at Akademia Fotografii in Warsaw/Krakow, a lecturer at the University of Art and Design in Berlin, and a lecturer for six years at Ostkreuzschule für Fotografie in Berlin. Since 2023 he is the founder/director of Werkstatt Berlin an independent school of photography in Berlin and the co founder and director of Werkstatt Editions, a publishing house of photography books. In 2016 he founded ArtFotoMode, a project that organises workshops with some of the most renowned photographers worldwide. He is a regular writer and portrait photographer for the British Journal of Photography and 1000 Words Contemporary Photography Magazine. He continues to work on personal documentary photography projects.

ONE-YEAR PROGRAMME
The aim of this programme is to produce a body of work to be exhibited at a gallery in Berlin. The programme works within the broad spectrum of the ‘documentary’ genre. During the year there will be three physical meetings in three different European cities with three different renowned and experienced photographers and curators as tutors.
