ArtFotoMode is an educational project that produces creative and experimental photography workshops with some of the most influential contemporary photographers as teachers and inspirational mentors. Workshops by ArtFotoMode have taken place in Berlin and have been conducted by photographic auteur’s including, Michael Ackerman, Lia Abril, Anders Petersen, Antoine d’Agata, John Gossage, Miho Kajioka, Laura Pannack, and Todd Hido. The aim of ArtFotoMode is to provide participants with a unique and productive experience that will enhance their creative output beyond the workshop, in locations that always provide context and inspiration. 

ArtFotoMode One Year Program began in 2022 and has been taught by David Campany, Rafal Milach, Laia Abril, Tim Clark, Sylvia Sachini, Claudia Küssel, Peter Puklus, Vanessa Winship and George Georgiou. 

Michael Grieve is the director of ArtFotoMode, who is currently based in Berlin. He graduated with an MA in Photographic Studies from the University of Westminster in 1997. He has been a photographer commissioned by magazines and publications internationally and represented by Agence VU in Paris. In 2010 he became the deputy editor of 1000 Words Contemporary Photography magazine, when he also co-organised 1000 Word workshops in Fez, Morocco. Since 2011 he has been an educator, as a senior lecturer at Nottingham Trent University in the UK, a lecturer at Akademia Fotografii in Warsaw/Krakow, a lecturer at the University of Art and Design in Berlin, and a teacher of documentary photography at Ostkreuzschule für Fotografie in Berlin.  He is the director, gallerist and educator of Hamburg & Berlin Werkstatt Fotografie. He is a regular writer for the British Journal of Photography and 1000 Words Contemporary Photography Magazine. 

ONE-YEAR PROGRAMME

The aim of this programme is to produce a body of work to be exhibited at a gallery in Berlin. The programme works within the broad spectrum of the ‘documentary’ genre.  During the year there will be three physical meetings in three different European cities with three different renowned and experienced photographers and curators as tutors.
