Karolina Spolniewski was born in Poland but raised in Germany after her parents escaped Communism when she was a child. She studied a photography B.A. at Berlin University of Art and Design. Currently works as an independent photographer and a filmmaker. In her work she explores the power structure of bonding constellations, matters of evanescence as well as the contrasts between home and placelessness within diverse cultural settings. Researching and photographing a long-term project called ‘Hotel of Eternal Light‘, a visual investigation into the field of regimes and totalitarian systems during the recent history of Europe. Karolina Spolniewski is member of the academic interdisciplinary communities The Triple-I as well as the SubZero collective.
