Claudia Küssel is an Amsterdam-born art historian, curator, writer, editor, and producer in the field of contemporary photography and visual arts. Currently, she is based in Budapest. Before moving to Hungary, she worked for institutions such as Fotomuseum The Hague, Nederlands Fotomuseum Rotterdam, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and Foam. She has curated many solo and group exhibitions and collaborated with artists such as Noémie Goudal, Peter Puklus, Dana Lixenberg, Sara Cwynar, Sputnik Photos, Hans van der Meer and Erik Kessels. During 2018-2019 she was the senior curator at the Mai Manó House in Budapest after which she started her independent curatorial practice. Upcoming projects include a collaboration with the House of Arts in Veszprém in the framework of Veszprém-Balaton 2023, European Capital of Culture. Starting from the international context of this event and the special characteristics of the region, she will curate several exhibitions including The Europe Archive by Erik Kessels and Thomas Mailaender and organise a residency program with Dafna Talmor. Besides being a dedicated promoter of international collaborations, her main focus is on interdisciplinary relations in
contemporary photography and the photobook.
