About the
EXHIBITION
Movement is an exhibition of diverse photographic projects made by participants of the ArtFotoMode One Year Program 2022 & 2023. Each individual has researched, developed and produced projects within a 12 month framework with the guidance of prominent photographers, visual artists, curators, writers and publishers in the field of contemporary photography.
Movement is a culmination of projects completed and in the process of being made, representing the end of the program and the continual creative process that is forever moving forward. The enduring strength of photography is the possibility to explore one’s own reality and the attempt to understand the reality of others in a complex existence. The act of photographing is a physical engagement to bring the movement of life into a still perspective allowing an intellectual and emotional meditation via the mediation of the camera.
From the documentary, poetic and conceptual visual strategies these projects cover an array of subject matter from the personal to the societal and political; migrants in Marseille, a street in Berlin, a mothers relationship to her son, a fathers relationship to his father and son, a critique of the regressive catholic church in Poland, feeling lost in Berlin, a diary of solitude in Prague, Russian occupation in the Zone of Fear in Georgia, the character and memories contained in vintage clothes, the melancholy of the difficult situation in Turkey, cowboy nostalgia in German towns, a homage to the elements, a scarred psychological landscape, and photography as therapy.
